OSCAR Pistorius has today been found NOT GUILTY of the murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp but his fate still hangs in the balance.
Despite being acquitted of premeditated murder Pistorius could still face a lengthy jail term for three other charges - including South Africa's equivalent of manslaughter.
The Paralympian shot and killed South African model Ms Steenkamp in the early hours of Valentine's Day in 2013 thinking she was an intruder in his house.
Speaking today, Judge Thokozile Masipa said: "The state clearly has not proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused is guilty of premeditated murder.
"There are just not enough facts to support such a finding."
Judge Masipa acquitted Pistorius of premeditated murder at the court in South Africa's capital Pretoria after finding the prosecution's evidence did not prove intent and is circumstantial.
She also dismissed dolus eventualis and said that there was no way Pistorius could have known the shot he fired would have killed Ms Steenkamp.
She also described Pistorius as a "very poor witness" but said that does not mean in itself that he is guilty.
However, before court adjourned for the day Judge Masipa questionned whether Pistorius acted as a "reasonable" person would have done on the night Ms Steenkamp died.Source
